Took the day off. Went to the river for a free bath. Now the fire is going in a bare teepee and the stars are amazing. For everyone worried about me hiking alone, take a look at all the hikers gathered here tonight. It's hard to get away from the good vibes and good stories from across the world.

KM general store turned everything off on us as if we'd leave, but this table has had a community beer source since noon…were not going anywhere till tomorrow

So Bernt stepped right infront of this bush before seeing this snake. Initially thought it was a gopher snake…nope…He didn't rattle or move until we passed wide around him. Close call.

The desert is dirty place. I was so happy to camp next to this river. Biggest amount of flowing water I've seen on trail in 700 miles (besides the aquaduct). Starting up into the high Sierra tomorrow afternoon. Got damn near all of my food for the next 4 or 5 days via mail or hiker boxes. Next stop is lone pine and mt whitney

This is just a really cool rock feature I've never seen before…but I have another story to tell. Yesterday while I was hiking through a nice forest I kept smelling hot dogs on the grill. I thought I was getting hiker hunger or having a stroke. I kept hiking for about 3 or 4 miles and kept getting a whiff of hot dogs…i get to a forest road where guys are handing out sodas and fruit, but not grilling there. Sure enough, about 3 or 4 miles later bernt and I happened upon more trail magic (the folks from a previous post where I had 5 hot dogs) and they were cooking hot dogs…i could smell that food from miles away, and now it's becoming a story that Trash Panda (My trail name) can smell free food from up to 10 miles away.

This section of desert is supposed to be the hardest part of the desert, but I've run into trail magic almost every day. People are going out of their way to keep water caches stocked, driving people to town, cooking food. The environment of awesome people is astounding…the Isuzu belongs to "coppertone" and this is the third time I've run into him and the third time I've had shade while enjoying cookies and a root beer float. This guy is top notch.

I spent a lot of time sitting under joshua trees today. It was 105F in Bakersfield (off in the distance), 97 on the trail, and the bugs are relentless in the shade. Time to start hiking at night.

Hit some trail magic a mile before camp. They said to eat as much as you want, so I ate 5 hot dogs, a grilled cheese, 2 slices of water melon, 6 cookies, a bag of chips, and drank two beers…dont have to cook tonight thanks to the best trail magic I've had so far

By far the coolest sunset I've seen in a long time. So happy to be out on the PCT, hiking with my friend from EWU.
