Sierras Pt 2

Beauty of the Sierras

So, the Sierra is absolutely beautiful, impressive, stunning, or just insert your own adjective. None of the pictures can even remotely grasp how awesome it is to hike through here. The silence is bliss at night. Half moon, stars, the creeks, frogs, bats, birds…this town is almost a torment to my senses, its hard to readjust. I'm currently in mammoth lakes, 1/3 of the way through the PCT. Some guys from a brewery let me and 4 friends crash at their camp site…while writing this next to the campfire, a coyote just walked up to me in the dark and ran off when I turned on my headlamp. But still haven't seen a bear, even though a 5 year old girl saw one out the window on the bus ride here while I was trying to fight nausea standing up. The mosquitos are a very serious burden, but the bug free times are well worth the fight.

Back on the Trail

Was hanging out in the evening and cooking dinner with a guy named "radio" last night, 8 miles from a trailhead. Had some quality conversation with a stranger for almost two hours. I was up by about 5am, had the last bits of breakfast I had packed 5 days ago, broke camp and we started hiking towards the 12000 foot pass. It was really cold but the views took my mind off the suffering of numb fingers and incline at altitude. Got a ride to the first town pretty quick, then a hitch 45 minutes north to bishop. I don't know if I'll ever be able to give up this experience of long distance hiking. 2 months down and I feel like home is entirely in the moment…except I miss my cat. Poor Esteban probably thinks I'm never coming back.
